Dhaka Metro Rail is a rapid transit system initiated in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. It is one of the mega projects of the developing Bangladesh. The construction of the project started in 2012 and was opened on 28 December, 2022. Though it will cover a length of 20.1 km from Uttara to Motijheel, primarily it is covering from Uttara to Agargaon. The metro rail system will consist of 16 elevated stations and one underground station. The project is being implemented by the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) with financial assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The metro rail system is expected to provide a safe, efficient, and affordable mode of transportation for the residents of Dhaka. The project is also expected to contribute to the economic development of the city by reducing travel time and increasing productivity. Once completed, the Dhaka Metro Rail is expected to carry around 60,000 passengers per hour, with a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour. The project is a significant step towards modernizing the transportation system of Dhaka and improving the quality of life for its residents.
